A past weekend Amelia and I decided to venture out to our old neighborhood so we took a trip to Little Italy on Arthur Avenue in the Bronx. We like to call this the ‘real’ Little Italy, but we are obviously bias. We made this trip so we could go to Mike\’s Deli. It is located in the Arthur Avenue market which in itself is a fascinating place. Mike’s is a family run operation which was started by Mike and his son David continues to run the business. You might have seen Mike’s Deli on Throwdown with Bobby Flay where they beat Bobby in an eggplant parmigiano competition. Despite being famous for their eggplant parmigiano, Amelia and I always get the Michelangelo with sundried tomatoes. The Michelangelo has fresh prosciutto and Mike’s homemade mozzarella.

Its too die for! Caloric overload: definitely. Worth it? HECK YES
So if you’re ever up in the Bronx check out Mike’s. They also have a stand in Yankees Stadium so instead of having a boring hot dog or nachos you can have an Italian sandwich from out of this world.
Homemade mozzarella sounds wonderful!
So true about the caloric overload being worth it! If you’re going to splurge, splurge on beautiful authentic Little Italy sandwiches with HOMEMADE MOZZARELLA (drool, I need some immediately).

[...] For President’s Day weekend, I visited my sister and brother in Washington, D.C. I visited D.C. last year on President’s Day weekend, but the city was full of snow. This year it was beautiful spring-like weather. For lunch on Friday, I met my sister at Jaleo. This fantastic tapas restaurant has a great lunch special where for $11 you can have a sandwich with half a soup or salad. I chose the ‘JLT’ which the menu describes as Jamón, lettuce, tomato, Manchego cheese and mayonnaise on a fresh brioche. To me it tasted like the best prosciutto I’ve had in my life with the exception of the prosciutto I’ve had at Mike’s Deli. [...]
